Hi everyone;
What have you used as a replacement carb on late 70's twins?
Mine has Mk 2 Amal's (2 of them).
32mm or 34mm Mikunis?

thanks

hi hopoil,
you can use 32 or 34 mikunis.34 give you more power up the rev range and32 give better low ,midrange torque.
for me 32 is better but if you're in search of the ultimate hp go for 34!aniway you ll see the great improvement it make over concentrics(sorry for amal fans but it's true).
amal are good for show but for real road riding hummmm!

please note the above bike appears to be a T140E if it has mark 2 carbs (which for all purposes are just like mikunis)
If I were changing I'd put mark 1 1/2 carbs on the bike

also please note some of the drag bikes (JAP) used to take of mikunis and replace them with amals.

ok ,ok Kadutz i see you like amals and it's they work well on full throttle but they are a hassle to tune when they aren't brand new(which lasts very few to say the least!!)
amals conception is good and it's very much the same as the mikunis but quality is very poor....!i have seen last month in classic bike(magazine )advertising for hard chromed brass throttle.finally after 39 years they have reckoned that there was a problem.pretty fast!
you know that the vm series from mikuni begins in 1964 before amals concentric,so if you change to miks you have a period mod!you're right too when you say the amal mk2 is the same as the miks but i found them bulky(question of taste)
for me the only real good point of mk1 is that they are the prettiest carbs, so british in the best sene of the term
have a good ride ,full chat of course

HOPOIL-

What did you end up getting, I'm about to pull the trigger on a 32 or 34mm Mikuni kit. Want to see if you have an opinion.

Thanks,
Jason
