Dear all,

Please don't take this the wrong way - I'm not trying to be patronising, I'm just trying to get maximum benefit for all forum members.

I respectfully ask that if you post a problem, and subsequently fix it (either through advice from forum members, by your own effort or research, or through a local mechanic/specialist), please let the forum know of the eventual fix. This way, ALL forum members can increase their level of knowledge about classic Triumphs, and hopefully pass it on to future generations - keeping the dream alive. It would also help when you're looking up historical posts - finding a fix on your read-through, rather than reading through the whole thing just to find out that the answer isn't there.

Please don't be embarrased about screwing up - we all do it (especially me), and it's a big part of the learning process. If telling others can save someone else time, or prevent damage to ride or rider, it's worth the 5 minutes it takes.

IMHO, this is an excellent forum, with exceptional members willing to assist in any way they can. Just a little more follow-through on fixes would make it even greater.

Thanks

Pete

i'm quite new on this forum (but a long time triumph rider)and i agree with you Pete 5/5 !
this is a great forum very active and useful but it lacks the feedback and when reading advices i often ask myself:does it work? i'd like to know...the end of the story.

bravo pete. i always try to follow the newb's rule (before you ask, check the archives/FAQs) and don't always find what i'm looking for.

when you think about it, we are creating a reference document here that future riders will use. it's fun to talk about fun things, but i can honestly say that this site has helped me a LOT. probably saved me hundreds of dollars and kept the tiger running when it would otherwise have been sitting idle waiting for me to scrounge up the aforementioned hundreds of dollars.

i'll try to keep your suggestion in mind.

***********
p.s., i know how much of a hassle it would be to create such a thing, but this site could use an FAQ, maybe an archive organized by general subject for easier searching.(i.e., "engine," "gearbox," "cosmetics," etc.). there is a wealth of information here that could be culled and organized into something really special -- not that it isn't special now, it very much is, but it's still a bit wooly.

it's easy to say that something could be fixed, another thing entirely to say you'll do it. i'm a book editor, not a web designer, and i have way too many non-paying projects going right now. but i might be convinced (or hired) to help. like i said, this site has already saved me money (if not helped me earn it), so i feel a certain loyalty.

1. I agree wholeheartedly that there needs to be "closure" i.e. feedback as to resolution

2. The "Wikki" section of ratnet is supposed to address this but I found it hard to maneuver and too wierd.

Ozbloke, good topic. All good replies also.. On my recent problem, abrupt low oil pressure with good return. Red light flickering. As suggested I made up and oil pressure gauge. I was recording 30 psi at 3000rpm rather than the 60-65 psi suggested. At idle 15psi rather than 20-30 psi. After reading posts I decided to renew my oil pump, oil pressure switch and oil regulating valve. Machine is 27 yrs. old with 10000 miles. It's been well maintained and exercised regularly even though ridden seldom, until last 2 yrs. I inspected the parts and noticed 2 areas of concern. The primary side of the pump, the ball seat was not as near as pronounced as the return side was. Everything else about the pump seemed ok. I reseated it and bagged it as I have done all parts of this bike. I pneumatically tested the oil pressure switch, but replaced it anyway. The main problem I found was the oil regulating valve was scored and would not seat completely. I check this by lightly squeezing oil into the oil passage coming out of the oil drilling. This was allowing oil the least of two paths of resistance, the bearings or right into the crankcase return, resulting in reduced oil pressure. Oz' like you said maybe this will help someone down the line. I immediately started running 65-70 psi o. p. So if I was to do this again I'd check the o.r.v. and replace it.i
