since i got my bike the speedometer needle tells me the right speed but it doesnt stay still, it moves up and down constantly around the speed i am at. any suggestions, could this be a guage prob or the speedo it self?

Other Motorcycle: 1970 Triumph Tiger 650
Extra Motorcycle: 1984 Yamaha Virago 700
Put a new speedometer cable on it and make sure that it's run as smoothly as possible, i.e. no sharp bends. If that doesn't do it, the speedometer is probably at fault.

Mine does the same thing and the tach really goes crazy when I push up past 5000... makes me think the clutch might be slipping.

Mine started doing that, then went to recording me doing 130mph @ 3000 rpm - think the speedo is on the way out. Replaced mine and cured it, but try the cable first, it's cheaper . . .

My Bonnie speedo works great below 70mph. When I hit 70 it pegs. Scared the ***** out of me the first time it did it! Was following a friend out in the middle of nowhere on his Norton. One second we're going up through the gears and I'm climbing toward 70 and a couple seconds later I shift into fourth gear and look down and I'm doing 150mph.
