i decided today that i would remove my center stand, since the spring was a little loose and i am not in the mood to buy a new spring. it skips off the road sometimes when i bank hard (and i see lots of scuffs from it doing so in the past) and i have an image in my head of it catching on a railroad crossing and "unseating" me, as suggested in the haynes manual.

since haynes specifically says that some riders just take it off, i figure i can't go but so wrong.

assuming that the bike will never break down away from home (ha ha) and need to be worked on, is there any convincing reason to keep the center stand on board for riding? i can always bolt it back on for work here at home.

ha! tell you what: red59's tale of flung and burning skunk guts pretty much made a fender believer out of me! after i read that, i never thought twice.

I took mine off last week for the first time. I thought it was clanking every time I hit a rut, which is quite often around here. Come to find out it's the chain and I don't think I'll take it off. I'm going to leave it off, just extra wieght, and as you said if you wanted to put it on at home, no sweat

okay
Second choice take a long bunji cord hook to center stand
stretch up and over seat and back down to other side of center stand problem solved!
if its the bunji is to long a 6pack of DIXIE beer can be used to take up any slack.
almost as good as fuel line for fender bushing but not as good as how to use an 69 cent household extension cord to replace a lost key in the ign switch
