i was riding today and then all of the sudden one of the valves started making alot of noise then it stopped and the bike started running on one cylinder.

i got the bike home and took off the valve covers. the intake rocker on the left side isnt moving when i turn the engine over. so i look further and the pushrod does not move up or down with the motor.

what could cause this?

why me jesus?

Possibly jumped off the lifter? Try to pick it up and put it back on in the center of the tube. Far fetched, I know but it's the simplest thing to do. You may have broken the camshaft or had the lobe go bad. Again, kind of far out but.... Also, the pushrod could be broken; using a box wrench, depress the valve and remove the pushrod. Hopefully, whatever it is will be minor.

Dreamin', I'm always dreamin': Jim

P.S. "Why me Jesus?"....when you find out, please let me know!!

the pushrod is not in contact with the rocker arm as i can move the rocker as far down as the valve and high enough to where it hits the rocker housing, so it definatley is not in contact with the pushrod. i cant really see but i think the pushrod is lower than it should be being that i can move the rocker so freely up and down.

i would need to remove the rocker covers to get to the pushrod. so i guess that is the next logical step.

I noticed this post is an hour later than your post on the tickler peeing on you. With the intake valve not opening while limping home, is the manifold flooded and pouring back to the carburetor? Might be why. Hope your pushrod problem is an easy cheap fix. Let us know.

Could also be a broken rocker.

No matter what, your rockerbox needs to come off for a look-see.

You asked "Jesus, why me?" Because it was ME for the longest time, now it's somebody else's turn!

Could be lots of things on that one cylinder, lets wait until the rocker box is off and then we should have some more info. As GPZ says 'it's gotta come off'.

i took the rocker box off and alls that happened was the pushrod fell off of the tappet on the cam i repositioned it and turned the motor over and it moves! nothing looks remotely broken at all. so i need to order the gaskets adjust the valves and get it back together. thanks to everyone for their help.

i read somewhere that when you take the rocker covers off that it warps the head because the headbolts are incorporated into the cover. is this true?
