Can the adjustment nuts on the clutch pressure plate be left in any position, or does the pip on the back of the nuts have to fit into an indentation? I think the can be left in any position as long as the plate is trued, but would like confirmation. I'd hate to have them unravel on the road. Thanks in advance, because I know you guy's are always helpful, even if its a wee question. Frank :???:

Hi Flash, ideally the nuts do want to be 'located'. However it is more important to get the pressure plate running true and sometimes the nuts do not fall into the 'locked' position.
It is important to 'true' the pressure plate, first screw the 3 adjusting nuts up so that 1 or 2 threads are protruding through. Then operate the clutch lever and gentley push down on the kick start, while at the same time looking at the pressure plate.
More than likely it will be running with the face going 'in and out'. Use the 3 nuts to adjust this run out, so it is running parralell to the last steel plate.
That my friend is the best your gonna get with the Meriden clutch!
Roy.

if you want a perfect truing of your pressure plate the best is to use a dial gauge .you place it near one nut (not on!) and you lift the clutch, then you note the mesure and you do the same for the second and third nut and you adjust by tightening or untightening so you can get a very precise adjustment...and it really works...!just need the gauge
