I got a new battery for my 70 TR6 charged it for a few hours and put it on my bike. (I know, it's not charged but I wanted to check some of my wiring) The horn was really loud. First time I ever heard it :-D I got nothing out of my light. Does the bike need to be running? And the switch on the headlight has three positions, what are they???

Oh and a follow up to another post, a NOS tank for my TR6 was $345.00. Great condition with a few scratches on it (who cares it is getting repainted anyway) So I should be riding in two weeks. Oh yeah except I don't have a motorcycle license yet. I keep forgetting about that!

Quagmire,
At work, so no books with me, but I'll have a stab...

Light switch positions would normally be OFF(left)-PARKING LIGHTS(middle), HEADLIGHTS+PARKING LIGHTS(right). By parking lights, I mean the small 5W globe in the headlight shell, the gauge lights (3W),and the 5W filament of the rear light.

Depends on how your bike is wired, some may require the ignition switch to be on to provide power to the lights, some may be straight from the Battery/Fuse. One way, your headlight goes off when you turn the ignition off (battery saver), the other takes the load off the ignition switch, but can lead to forgetful types being caught out with a bat flattery.

Hope this helps

Funny thing. I'm sure having a light bulb that isn't burnt out also helps :hammer: God help me when I get my license!

FWIW, on mine, it's "dim" (or "brown" in the US), "flicker," and "off"

American models need the ignition switch in the "on" position for the lights to work. Seems to kill the idea of a parking light, doesn't it?

As Joesph Lucas is purported to have said: "A gentleman does not motor about after dark".

New question along the same line.

1) When you squeeze the front brake the rear light should light up right? I had my battery on again today and hooked up the rear light, when I squeezed the front brake------no light. When I pull the switch on the chain guard-----no light. I tested the rear switch and it is good.

2) How does on test the front brake cable? there is a little "dohickey" on the cable with two spade connectors. One for a white wire and one for a brown wire. (the same color wires go into the stop lamp switch on the chain guard.)

3) The rear light however has a funny connector with a brown/green wire and a brown wire. my rear light has a black and a red wire to connect to the brown/brown-green wire. Which one goes to which??? :???:
