What is the easiest way to check rear wheel alighnment - my tyres are not the same width?

I would really like to put parallel marks on the slot where the rear wheel spindle fits in the long run

Thanks for any help - I want to get riding in now after a long rebuild

I usually just eyeball the rear chain from sprocket to sprocket. Not very scientific. I've heard there's a tool that clamps on to the rear sprocket with a sight on it that you line up on the drive sprocket. Sounds dandy. I believe a guy could make something like it fairly easy. You can use 2 straight edges on the back tire and get the same distance from the front tire on each side. 2 straight studs would work, but you have to have the handlebars absolutely straight. Maybe a laser type rule. :???: Oh yeah, I also measure the chain adjusters on mine, making sure first the little adjuster plates are both flat and not bent. I think you could measure or count threads on yours. Make any sense. Let us know what you find best, OK :???:

I posted a lenghty reply under the topic "Wheel adjustment" about the straightedge clamp I devised. One lightweight steel angle each side of the bike, clamped to the rear wheel with two long bolts, spacers each side of front tire, then adjust wheel and tighten axle nut. Angles force the wheel to stay aligned perfectly as you adjust.
