Does anybody have any tricks on how to stop gear oil leaking from the fronty drive sprockett? I have replaced the seal and the o-ring twice (pain in the butt) and I can't stop the leak. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Mike,

I've had the same problem on mine. Lots of oil dripping when leaned over on side stand. Crud collecting on bottom frame plate, and the chain flinging oil all over the place.

When you say you've replaced the seal, which one? There are three in this area, as well as the O ring. A larger one that seals the inner surface of the sprocket, a small one that seals the main shaft as it comes out towards the clutch, and the small one in the cover plate behind the clutch, again sealing the main shaft.

Mine ended up being the small one sealing the mainshaft as it came through the sprocket - forgot to put a new one in on refurb.

Hope this helps.

Pete

I recall reading of a fix from somewhere (from an old Triumph guru) to use "Yamabond" on the shaft splines before slipping the sprocket on. I never tried it, but he claimed it worked. Something to do with the way the splines were cut to far on the shaft I believe... :???:

Thanks guys

I have replaced both seals (the large one that seals the sprocket and the small one that seals the shaft), the seal in the clutch hole cover, and the o-ring. I even put a generous coating of silicone sealant on the o-ring. It leaks worse than it did before. Looks like I'm in for another tear down.
