73 Bonnie T140V. New owner and not sure if the prior owner has the wiring right. I just want to make sure before I hook the battery up. I looked at the wiring schematic but still have some questions. Here is what I have
Sitting on the bike
Left coil- black/white, white/yellow
Left condensor- black/white going to left coil
Right coil- white/yellow, black/yellow
Right cond- black/yellow going to right coil
Rectifier- red, green/yellow, 2 brown/blue one of the wires
has been cut and a fuse has been added but it is missing the connection for it
Red wire (ground?)
Also has a brown/blue wire with a 35amp fuse and two eye connections but neither are connected to anything
How does everything look so far? What connects to the positive batt terminal. Where does the loose brown/blue wire with a fuse connect to? Can you start the bike with no battery? I am new to the Lucas system. Thanks

Kawtoy,

Coil/condenser wiring is correct if you have points fitted.

Rectifier - Red is centre connector on top (earthed through centre bolt). Two wires (I think they were green/white, green/yellow) come from the alternator, Brown blue should be Negative to battery, via the fuse.

Red is ground (battery positive).

Bit hard without a diagram, but here goes....

Batt -ve ----- 20A Fuse -----Rectifier, Zener, Ign Switch, possibly headlight switch. Brown/blue wires.

Batt +ve ------ Rectifier, earth on Engine, also may be earthed under Zener mount (not sure on 73). Red wires.

Need the battery, and in good condition, to start

Pete

Just found out the importance of the battery. Got a new one today it started on the second kick...after 20 years. Thanks
