I have a spare fuel tank, and am not sure which model it comes from. Hoping someone on the forum can help identify. I've been told it might be a "breadbox" tank off a 70-71 OIF....

If it's not usable as a spare with my 77, I guess I could:

- sell it through mags or ebay (too much trouble)
- try to "barter" it for some head work I need done
- donate it to a deserving forum member who has a genuine need, such as a project without a tank.

Please note I have stripped the paint since the picture was taken. It was in fairly poor (faded) condition.

Appreciate any advice anyone could offer.

Thanks

Pete

Tank is from a 71 or 72 OIF Home model will work on your 77
no problem. You will need to used a home model seat as it is shorter in the nose if you use the tank. Also one of the horseshoe rubbers under the tank is different.

quick question how can you tell tank is off a72 tiger.
I thought they started using this style tank on late 71's
and that 71 & 72 tigers had the same color?
Tanks in advance :upthumb:

Hi Kadutz, the 1971 was Pacific blue and cold white, the 1972 was Polychromatic blue and cold white. Poly blue is a candy while Pacific is a silver base with PB over. Now I may be wrong, but it looks like Poly blue in the picture.
Which ever, as you say it will fit with the rubber change.
Roy.

Many tanks for the identification, guys.

Turning rapidly into winter down here, so it's time to get those big jobs done. I'll be checking with the machine shop guy in the next week or so. Most likely I'll be paying cash for the job(s), so I'll probably be getting rid of it soon.

regards,
Pete

Flash - winters here ain't that bad. Have to drive 3 hours into the mountains to get to snow. Lotsa rain though. Don't want to get the ride rusty. Perfect time to do a complete engine strip.

Be safe - keep the shiney side up!

Pete
