Has anyone upgraded to the high capacity OEM oil pump? It consists of Oil pump #71-7317, Oil pump gasket #71-3910, Allen bolt14-7008, and Allen bolt 14-7007. The pump itself is only about 20 bucks more than the stock pump. Has 4 valves instead of 2. Seems pretty simple installation, except a clearance problem with the timing cover. Must grind a little off the cover for correct cover seating, or buy another cover. I think these were factory upgrades in late'79 or early '80. If anyone has done this I'd appreciate if you would share any experience., pro or con.

I've never had oil or pump related problems in the Laredo heat and dust. Our average temperature is like 91F and the dirt is like sanblasting bead.

The main reason no problems:

USE SPECIFIED OIL AND CHANGE IT OFTEN!

I've changed it at least twice a year( Castrol 20/50 )and with 10500 miles in 27 years I'd say most of the time it never had more that 200-500 miles between changes . It gets any where from 90's to the 100's here . If you saw my threads you can see this problem just happened. It might not be the pump after all, but with the pressures I'm getting , (15# at idle to 30# at 2000 rpm) I've got to do something. One start up I had 55-60 # for about 5 min. I don't want to run it too long under the circumstances . So who knows what it is? I just want to get the best pump I can get while I'm at it. Thanks for the interest. :???:

Look into the Morgo oil pump; it's a gear type, I believe, and it gives a constant smooth flow of oil. I think they are still available from the British suppliers.

Hope this helps: Jim

They make a plunger type and a rotary. Good quality I believe. I'm getting more inclined to leave it stock for now. Appreciate the info. Thats what its all about. Frank

hi,
ihave fitted such a four valves oil pump on my t120 13 years ago and it works well.dont be overstressed by oil pressure figures,i had an oil pressure gauge on my bike and it was a pain because at iddle i had nearly zero psi except when cold(at start)but i never had any problem in fact in 40 thousand miles so i removed my gauge years ago.if you need more of it just ask and good ride
