In my 68 bonnie & 68 daytona what grade & type oil would you reccomend. I've used both 50w & 20w50 in my 71 bonnie 30 + yrs ago. Should i run the same in engine & primary? Also what should the tranny take?

I run 20/50 Castrol GTX in all my Triumphs engine and primary In the gearbox I use 80/90 or 85/145 Hypoid Gear Oil to which I add a supplement made by Lubegard.
If you can get the Castrol motorcycle oil it might be a little better due to an oil formulation change a few years back to normal automotive oils.
I never felt it was worth buying the cycle specific oils (such as Spectro). Many of their additives are aimed at oil shear
experienced in Jap bike gearbox's with shared engine trans oil. I suppose you could use the oils marketed toward HFD's
are there needs would be similar to Triumphs.

GO BY THE BOOK.
Castrol is what I use unless I can find Valvoline 4-stroke M/C oil.

I run Castrol 20/50 GTX in my vintage bikes. My understanding is that you don't want to use synthetic oils because the tolerances were significantly bigger in the older bikes and the synthetics are made for todays bikes with closer tolerances. It's more involved than that, but I'm not smart enough to remember what the other reasons are.

Valvoline is harder for me to find in Laredo, TX.
They are about equal, but I used to use Castrol for bikes when they made it a while back. I never see it HERE any more...

I'm only just starting to make associations with wholesalers locally, I've always bought everything I need long distance, and just used whatever oil I could find on the shelves.
