Removed oil pump and tested according to manual. First observation: The seat on the return side was well defined. At first I couldn't see a seat on the supply side. Cleaned it up and the seat was very thin. Measured springs free length and met spec's, 1/2 in.. Everything looked alright to me. I did notice the supply side did not hold vacuum as long as the return side with fingers over the supply ports and pulling back on the plunger. The block fit the cam end well. Seals looked good also. Blew out the pipes and didn't see any foreign matter. It's possible the seat on the supply side was hit and miss. It was awfully dirty in that bore for having run clean oil. All that said, I'm going to replace the pump. I'm thinking there was a pump improvement in late '79., maybe '80. Supposed to be better. Anybody know about that. Also are there any upgrades on the pump I can do? One more thing, should I blow out the oil ways to the crank etc. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks as always. :???: Oh there is an oilway drain plug in the bottom of the crankcase, should I remove that and blow out that passage?

Never used one myself, but it's a popular 'upgrade'.
