Okay, I'm getting close on my complete rebuild. I just put the new pistons and rings in, lowered the barrel, and secured the nuts. The barrel was just rebored to match the pistons, which are 020 over Cycle Craft after markets. The manual stated that the pistons and crank should rotate freely before proceeding further. Since this is my first full rebuild, it is the first time I've done the top end out of the frame where I didn't have the kick start available to help me turn the pistons over. When I did it in the frame the kick starter made the pistons turn rather easily. Now that it is out of the frame I had to put a wrench on the drive side crank in order to turn it. My question is how freely should it turn? It turns with a minimal amount of resistance, like turning in a bolt, but not torquing it down. Once again, while it was in the frame it seemed to turn easier or freer, but that may have been due to the aid of the kick starter. I understand that it may be a little tighter just after a rebuild as to opposed to just before. Hank

I agree with grandadpaulz.. when you are all connected and ready to start the engine, it is worth taking teh plugs out and drop a couple of drips of oil in, then turning the motor with the kickstart for couple of minutes... this will prime/fill all the oilways... Immediately after starting check you have return oil going in the tank. place a finger over this to force extra oil up to the rockers for a minute.

Hank im about at the same stage

on my t100r rebuild i was wondering what if any oil/lube should go in a new barrel with new rings pistons etc before i brake it in.

I drizzle a bit of oil over the top of the pistons and down the rings just before I slide the cylinders on.

i did the bigbore, lighter valves from kibbleWhite you mentioned weeks ago and could maybe use a run through on seating the valves properly(i own a machine shop) these type of blackdiamond special valves are wierd apparently they use a copper seat behind them or something. anyone ever used them.

I've not heard of copper in valves or seats before, I think it would be WAY too soft to survive past 2 minutes of idle.
