I posted this in the general section but I thought some of you guys might like to see it too:

If you guys are even mildly interested in ever buying an old bike to fix up, I highly recommend GrandPaulZ's book - 'OLD BIKES'.

It's a great little book; well written and fun to read.

It has lots of very useful information about not only how to shop for an old bike, but also the basics on how to work on them. Along with each mechanical task he outlines, Paul assigns a value of difficulty so you have some idea what may or may not be for you. Perfect! That was exactly what I was looking for and the type of thing a shop manual doesn't tell you.

I have already learned a lot. I know that some of his "do's & dont's" have saved me from a future headache or two.

Great stuff!
It's making me so anxious to go looking for my project bike!

I read his book Friday and thought it was very informative. There are certainly enough tips worth the 18 bucks.

I too appreciated the mechanical tips and descriptions in the chapter “maintaining & repairing old bikes”. I found it to be a good read for a prospective buyer of old bikes.

Nice book and congratulations!

I'm glad you guys are having fun with the book, Once you finally get an old bike after owning modern bikes, you'll wonder why you didn't do it a long time ago. They seem (to me) to be more relaxed, and of course they look so much cooler than tupperware and rocketships.
