Thanks. I thought they might be an aftermarket kit. Back in the seventies I saw a bonnie (oil in frame with 60' style air cleaners. They had a curved rubber manifold and a brace that went over the frame backbone. The breather was relocated to the swing arm for chain oiling. I'm thinking maybe he did I himself with some curved radiator hose or something. I wondered at the time if it would affect running of the machine with that bend between the carb. and the intake port of the head. It looked good. I sure want another filter set up for mine. I don't think the stock air boxes are air tight. I've been sealing their joint with duct tape. I figured that might help. Anybody retro their air boxes on an oil in frame model? It's a wonder those on the '73 model cleared the down tube( oil tank) :hammer:

I have a time set-up to view and ride the bike next weekend. The bike is a few states away from Maryland but if I turn down the deal I'll be happy to pass along the info.

Can anyone give the lowdown on the VIN? What does the VEH mean? I have a couple of books on the way but havenot arrived as of yet.

If Grandpaul says "buy it", then you'd better buy it.

Grandpaulz response was rather quick to the point. I ordered his new book last week so I quess I'll get his loquacious opinion in there. :wink:

The "EH" indicates it was made in May of 1973. T140V is the model.

'V' stands for five=five speed gearbox.

E=may

H=1973

As tmiller has already said.

No. I didn't get a chance to see it last weekend. I really have had second thougths about this bike. Eventhough I think it looks like a good deal I really would like to start with something closer to original condition and older. Since I only have the finite amount to spend I'd like to start with what I want. I'm willing to wait and continue to scout the market.

Ironduke, choose wisely. While the pics look good; it has some mods and is not original. That is at least in part why the price is reasonable. At this point many have been pieced together. Some with great care, some not. Not a problem necessarily if you know it and are ok with that and pay accordingly. If you want to go older you may want to focus on the '68 - '70 model years as many believe they were the best of the breed. However, a nice original of that vintage will cost you much more than $3,300. Like any collectible it all depends on how original you want and how much if any work you want to do. Consider also the smaller displacement (500cc) Meridan Daytonas of these years as they are great fun and probably more affordable to purchase than a similar Meridan Bonnie or Tiger. Ride Safe
