Most owners agree that headlamp bulbs are problematical on these old bone shakers. and I do believe that the LUCAS brand name for these components changed hands many, many years ago.

I have to say that the reflector and focusing glass on these old tarts produces the worst head lamp know to mankind, but then they were designed for a very different world than we know today. For example, there were no large Kangaroos hopping out onto those quiet English roads and where the top speed was probably about 40MPH anyway.

In our world, to ride these old tarts at night, one would need take up some of the suggestions made here. As T120rv says here, a 45w/45w sealed halogen would fix virtually all the problems without introducing others. RR

I've ridden many old and new bikes on the road and the old 7" Lucas 700 units seem fine to me, unless they're tarnished. The 30/24W 6V bulb was a bit dim though, just a bit.

The worst headlights are on some newer bikes. I remember a late 1990s CB500 twin being more or less unusable at night (and I had 500 dark miles in front of me at the time). Various sports bikes have bad lights too.

Ignition components. No radio, it was a rally car that shouldn't have been in he U.S. per emissions standards.

I've got a very bright LED (1.5w) for a pilot light and a special +earth LED stop/tail bulb.
I use them as daytime running lights without worrying about draining the battery.
The pilot light is brighter than the headlight! The tail light is not as bright as standard, maybe because on the T140 the bulb faces down. Got them here:-
