I think that it's worth noting that the magnets do weaken with time.

True. If you read my stator log I did buy a new Wassell so I could compare it against my collection of Lucas rotors to see how they stood-up. One rotor wants chucking in the bin but generally the rest compare quite well despite being 40-50 years older than the Wassell.

Another way of looking at this then is that compared to a new Wassell rotor a new Sparx rotor is more powerful.

keep the rotor and tie a dog lead of string to it.

We used to use an old speaker magnet like this to collect dropped screws/bolts on the floor. Used in a pattern like a minesweeper, all sorts of lost bits and bobs are found
