i have a 1971 Bonneville 650 i would like to put back to color original it seems that the only color for 1971 is the Gold /Black combo is that the only color?
if so can anyone tell me the paint code for the color or any website i can get that info it seems that GM colors from that Era are close in color bit i don't have any parts in gold to compare. the is bike at the moment https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/530946_10151074106761910_1551647997_n.jpg
From my Roy Bacon bible, T100 71 has Olympic flame tank and mudguards, TR6, Pacific Blue and White Tank, and blue mudguards; T120 Tiger gold with black tank. gold mudguards. Yours looks like a twin carby, so will probably be T120.
Yes, the Gold with black scallops was the stock color for the Bonneville in that year. I think that there may have been a different color scheme for the other models but I don't know what there were.
I just finished mine and had the paint matched by my local supplier. I was lucky in that the underneath of the tank was in pretty good shape and that gave them something to match to.
is one of the better suppliers of correct paint for Triumphs in the US but I don't know if he ships to Canada.
Do you have a local supplier that can match for you or would have paint chip books to choose from? The paint is metallic so keep that in mind.
Here is a link to my rebuild, perhaps the colors on the web pages will help you. I was never a fan of the black scallops so chose a different color for them however the gold is still pretty close.
I also have a 71 t120r and was under the impression that gold with white scallops was th correct color for that year. Gold and black was a 1973 triton color as far as I know but not positive. Seems like the info should be avalible in the service manual and or in the parts manuals.
71 bonnie was tiger gold with black scallops and white lining.I had a new one in 1971 and the paint went dull at 5 years. It seems the paint was no good in sunlight.Had a slight greeny tint to it and large metal particles. There is currently,a 71 tank and front guard on ebay uk.tatty but it gives you an idea what the paint looks like after being in sunlight
Gatornapper did a '72 - gold but with white instead of black - that was gorgeous. It's a crazy long thread (worth reading anyway) but if you can find the bit where he talks about paint it might be a lead.
Thanks for the info guys i have looked into shipping paint to Canada but it cannot be shipped across the border i was hoping to find someone who had painted one with a automotive color from a chip book
(eg 1970 GM Aztec gold) or something as i don't have any gold to compare . also does anyone have a link i can use to get the wiring diagram
see ebay # 170943025830 it is an original NOS 1971 bonneville gas tank painted original factory gold with white scallops with black pin striping.
