Fuel stabiliser?

Can anyone recommend a fuel stabiliser to put in the tank over winter (I don't run the bike once the salt's down)? If it also cleans jets etc, so much the better!

not what you asked, but I rotate the fuel in my bikes to the car and refill half way through winter.

I have used several products in both my bikes and my boat. I've owned my boat since it was new in 1993 and before E-10 showed up.

Stabil - regular gasoline formula
Valvetec - recommended by local marina owner and he has it in all his marine gas he sells
Lucas Products stabilizer - for ethanol laced gasolines
Stabil for Ethanol Fuel

I've never had a problem with any bikes or my boat using any of these.

For the boat, I've always put the stabilizer in the fuel when I add fuel to the tank because the boat sits a lot.

For the bikes, I add stabilizer when I winterize them.

I also have a Miata that I winterize and used those products in that car as well with no issues to date. Owned that car about 11 or 12 years now.

One point for those who may have older vintage bikes with cork seals in the petcocks. Don't drain your tanks or your seals will dry out and shrink. Those with these bikes probably already know that. I learned the hard way.

regards,
Rob

And just a quick word to those who like to just fill up the tank and not bother with a stabilizer, opting to just drain and refill in the spring.
These two identical pieces of mild steel tubing were completely submerged in E10 gas for a few weeks. One had stabilizer added. Guess which.

E10 is evil stuff.

Eman, that's very striking. Was the container open to the air or were they sealed containers?

What is that on the ugly piece, rust or crud?

Since our tanks are bare steel, I would expect them to look the same inside as your ugly sample. But they don't... at least mine don't.

Did you do this experiment yourself or is this info you found on the web?

Thanks,
Rob
