What were the available color options for 1977? I've seen several pictures but have yet to see any verified factory brochures etc. with all of the color choices for 1977.
My Bonnie was silver/black scallop when I bought it but is now red/white scallop gold pinstripe, but some one at a show told me the only choice for 77 was blue/white scallop.
I don't know... Someone Help!
Appreciate the help :???:

1977 Was the first year for "Pacific Blue" and "Ice White". I have the original dealer brouchure and original owners manual calling out the colors and codes:

USA Small Tank: Cherokee Red E222
USA Large Tank: Polychrome Blue Heavy Fleck C7983

The original Dealers Brouchure I have states that "Pacific Blue" was the new color for 1977. Here's a pic:

If your interested in the Original Owner's Manual, Parts Manual, and Workshop Manual for your bike (parts manual also includes 1976 models) please check the member's list and email me. I'll send you a link where each can be downloaded.

I scanned all my original documentation and converted it into .pdf format.

Regards,

Former 77T140V Pacific Blue/Ice White owner converted to '79 colors ...... Tom

Sorry to dissagree 77T140V but Pacific blue and Poly blue are TWO DIFFERENT COLOURS.
The correct colours for the year are as GPZ states, Poly Red OR Poly blue with white scallops.

What's your source that Poly Red/Cherokee Red and Poly Blue/Pacific Blue are "TWO DIFFERENT COLOURS"?

As I stated earlier, the 1977 "US" owners manual calls out the "Red" as Cherokee Red, and the Parts manual calls it out as Poly Red. I can send you scans of each if you're interested.

The Owners manual and Parts Manual calls out the blue as "Poly Blue" as stated earlier and the 1977 "US" dealer brochure calls out the color as Pacific Blue.

The gentlemans original question was for a US spec bike. Am I assuming you believe the colour schemes were different for Euro and US models?

I've stated my sources. I never contradicted GPZ, but only stated what the colors were called when released in the US.

What's your source that the colors are different?

Regards,

Tom

My source is the "Bonnie" book.

I have found it to be correct every time.

BUT Remember, Triumph used the "mix and match" philosophy regularly...

Also, East Coast and West Coast specs often differed.

Very nice looking bike there, 77. However, either the color on the photo is off or that blue looks a bit "too blue"! I think the Poly Blue was quite a bit darker with heavy metallic in it. Your "lighter" blue reminds me of the color that was on later Trophies. It was NOT metallic. Don Hutchinson in Mass. would know as he has all the original specs for the paints as that is what he does! (i.e. paints old Triumph tanks to original specs) According to some manuals, the Poly Blue was offered later in the year as an option - Poly Red - being a carry-over from 76. There's also a pic in the photo album forum under Vintage Bikes (Bonneville) or is that YOURS? Ride it, don't hide it! :-D

Ok, so here it is and hopefully will put it to bed at last. This is from the man who supplied the colour matches to Don, John Critchelow, who also painted ALL of Hughie Hancox restorations:
Poly red and poly blue are COARSE GRAIN METALICS.
Pacific blue and Cherokee red are CANDYS (applied over a base colour).
They are also DIFFERENT COLOURS, regardless of what the brochure says.
We have a saying here in England "It says OXO on the sides of busses, but they don't sell it!).
Roy.
