Hi there.
I own a '71 T100 that has a slight slip in 2nd & 3rd gears, which I would like to cure. The clutch is apart now and the plan is to de-glaze the fibre portion of the clutch plates and to possibly bead blast the all metal plates to promote better friction. On top of this will go new clutch springs. The question would be, is bead blasting the all metal plates adviseable, or do I run the risk of creating a grabby clutch which might be prone to drag? I've tried tightening the old springs another turn in the past which did cure the slip but resulted in a notchiness in the clutch actuation (a click could be felt every time you actuated the clutch - I hear this is common). Give me your thoughts before I dive in. Thanks Jack

I usually just take the steel plates, lay them on a good, flat concrete sidewalk and place thumb and forefinger of BOTH hands on opposite sides of the plate. Then, rub briskly and firmly in a circular motion until you get a uniform roughness.

This has worked fine for me on at least 4 old Bonnies, and 2 Nortons in the last 10 years or so.
