Hello
I am starting a Triumph project bike. This is my first Triumph since I owned a 500 Daytona many moons ago. I was hoping to find a unit of 1968 - 70 vintage but that has proven tougher than I thought. Anyway, I have located a lower end numbered du25XXX which I believe should be a 66?? Are there any shortcomings with these bottom ends compared to the 68 thru 70 vintage? Also, I can only get the cases, rods, crank and a few other odds and ends. Need I worry much about other t120r part compatibility? Things like side cases etc. Not worried about primary as I'm going with belt drive. May go with big bore kit as well. Thanks!

The wonderful thing about the old Bonnies is interchangeability. The only thing to be careful of is the fastener threads. Always check close, because you'll get a nut to start on, or a bolt to start in, then it will stick. PULL IT OUT, it's not dirty, IT'S THE WRONG THREAD!

If you aren't going long-distance endurance riding or drag racing, the 66 engine will be fine for an old vintage rider. In fact, they are EXCELLENT. Yes, newer engines have a few better points, but nothing to throw everything away for.

Thanks GrandPaulZ
So would you reccomend say a 71 or later vs the 68 to 70. If I'm not mistaken they have a 5sp gearbox. Are they much tougher? I do plan on some pretty serious Mod's to this thing so I don't want the crank ending up on the pavement! This switchover from Beezer to Triumph is a learning experience! :???:
