Questions about solid mounting bars

Hi Team,

Once again i come with questions!? I put new metallastic bushes in my tope yoke as well as the domed washers, rubbers and cups but the bars are still fairly "floppy" i was pretty dissapointed. I have been reading up on these bushes and apparently they come in varying quality - i obviously got the dodgy ones..... so questions -

(1) If i was to purchase the solid mount bushes for these bars can the original metallastic bush stay in position or does it require removal to fit the solid mount bushes/washers? (The metallastic one is bloody tight in there was a nightmare to get it fitted)

(2) Also how bad is the vibration through the hand grips once the bars are solid mounted? ( I put the original style "Beston" grips on it)

(3) Anyone got any measurements/dimensions of the solid mount bushes if i wanted to turn a set up on lathe etc?

Kind Regards,

Ruger001.

vibration

If you mount your bars with no vibration absorbtion, numb hands will stop you from riding before anything else. My handlebars moved up and down an inch or more when it was new. Bob

Yeah thats about what i have now Bob 1 inch or so of movement in them, I may leave well enough alone for the time being.

Cheers John.

I always thought that the whole point of the bushes was movement.

You know they're knackered when they go hard and solid.

The up-down movement was much more pronounced when I had western (US) handlebars with more pullback. Bob

Dave these are what i would call "floppy" i thought they would be "springy i.e. return to centred position when pushed or pulled, the ones i have seem to flop forward or backward. Some post i read said there might be a mistake in the manual as to to way the dommed washers face is it possible i may have these around the wrong way a pic would be great of these or the general assembly if anyone has one to confirm the way mine are installed.

Bob mine are the western bars as well.

Cheers John.

I think it was me about the wrong order. ( told to me by the shop who sold me the replacements)
My US spec bars return to normal but the extra length of the bars naturally gives more leverage so they move a reasonable amount when pulling on them.

I'll look at my bike and see if I can snatch a photo

Woo hoo got it sorted the conacle washers were around the wrong way as per your suggestion DaveM - much appreciated, turned them around and perfect now push/pull on them and they are what i would call "springy" - this is now the third time my manual has lead me up the garden path!

For anyone else having this issue check the chamfered part of the top and bottom conacle washers have the chamfer facing in towards the metallastic bush in you top yoke.

Kind Regards John.
