Gents, just took my pipes off to find I've got spigots in the heads on my bike. I knew the 2 into 2 exhaust wasn't stock, but I didn't know it had spigots. Is this a possibility, are spigots available for the "79 Bonnie special, or has someone swapped heads at some point?

In addition to having the spigots, I've also got one side of the head with messed up threads. Looks like the spigot worked iteself loose then rubbed the first few threads all to poop. Anyone know what tap I would need to straighten that mess out?

Those trashed threads may need to be built up and re-threaded - $75 or so. Triton machining is one of the folks that offer that fix.

It looks like most of the threads are fine, I don't think any build up would be necessary. Only the first round of threads that you need to get it started is goofed up. If I could locate the correct tap, it'd be an easy fix. Anyone know what tap that requires?

LukeMac,
The tap for your exhust threads is 1 5/8 '' 15 tpi.
Why don't you file three or four grooves at an angle on the spigot for about the first four or five threads thus making it similar to a tap. Slowly insert the spigot into the head working it in and out using plenty of oil .Remove the spigot often to clean the grooves. This should work very well and spare you the expense of a tap.Don't forget use lots of oil.

The srecial did not have spigots but the stock spigots from earlier 650s fit and you could use pipes from the 1982 and up T140 s .

Thanks for the details Lutz! I had a similar idea in mind. Last night I was able to use the spigot as a tap and get it back in. Took quite a long while and it still fits very tight, but I don't think I'll have to worry about the spigot coming loose for a while. I was wondering which spigots they were since they weren't stock on my bike...thanks for filling me in, and now I know what pipes I can get also, you're good!

Exhaust is back on, but I'm still getting a little smoke out of my left cylinder. Any chance that's a ring that will reseat itself or am I just looking at another repair I'll have to tackle before I'm rideable?

I'd ride it with the litle bit of smoke. Hey, it's a 26 year old bike, that's normal! As long as you aren't burning a lot of oil (more than a cup in a month of regular riding), you are okay. Also, as long as there is no excessive tapping/clacking sounds.

Do a HOT compression check and post the results. Do at least 3 rounds on each cylinder, you'll need a friend to hold the guage. Twist the throtle wide open when kicking, with both plugs out at the same time.

I'll see what I can do about that compression test...I'll have to borrow or buy the gauge, but that's no big deal. I found a Lucas Oils fuel additive that is supposed to help clean up cylinder walls, and reduce blow-by and oil burning. Magic cure all fluid! I wasn't sure it would do anything, but I figured it couldn't hurt. Small bottle treats up to 25 gallons. I used about 1/3 on my full tank. Seemed to reduce the smoke to nearly nothing after about 10 minutes of running. It'll be interesting to see if that problem stays cured.

Thanks for all the help, I'll get on the compression test this weekend.
