I have a new Bonneville that I am modifying to look more like an early 60s model. I am looking for a source for the metal trim that runs horizontally on each side of the Triumph Classic tank badge (also called the harmonica or mouth organ-style tank badge) found on late 50s and early 60s Triumphs.

Does anyone have a source for such trim, or know of an authentic-looking reproduction? Here is a photo of a '59 Bonneville showing the trim.

Thanks for your help.

Ned

You can get this trim from Triumph themselves. Log onto http://www.triumph.co.uk they have it on their website.

Thanks Lobo, but I am looking for the metal trim that runs horizontally on each side of the Triumph Classic tank badge, not the badge itself. I don't see that on the Triumph website and can't imagine the new Triumph company sells trim for early 60's motorcycles. If I'm wrong, can you tell me where to look on the website? Thanks again.

Neducati...check out the "tank trim" accessory from newbonneville.com and see if you can't make that work. It's the adhesive chrome strip for use on the centerline of the gas tank to replicate the older Bonnie's seam cover. I don't see why that couldn't be cut to size and be used for your application. Looking at the pic you provided, looks like 1 strip at $7.95 will probably do it for you.
If you want to cover the ugly existing tank seam on the edge of the tank while you're at it, I would recommend the chrome trim from JC Whitney # AGU125825 at $19.95 for 50 feet.

Thanks for the reply Shorty. I have a piece of that trim from www.newbonneville.com that I will put on the top of the tank after it is repained. The problem is, it's a little too narrow and a little too thick to pass for the beveled tank trim on the vintage bikes. But I do appreciate the suggestion just the same.

I see, well I hope you can find something that will work. It will look good I'm sure once it's done.

Sorry about the confusion Ned. I know it's not exactly in your neck of the woods, but it might be worth contacting "Ace Classics London" here in the UK. I see from their advertisements that they do have what you want in stock (tank badge side styling strips), but I don't know whether or not they'd ship it to you or if it would be worth your while.

Their address is 101~103 St Mildreds Road, Lee, London SE12 0RL

Tel: 020 8698 4273.

Good luck.

Lobo-

You da man! I just checed out Ace Classic's website:

http://www.aceclassics.co.uk/products.htm

It states:

"Those owners wishing to complete fuel tanks on the rigid and early swing arm models can take advantage of our 4 types of Strip band, provided with high quality chrome finish."

I just emailed them to see if their products fit, or can be adapted to fit, the "new" Bonneville. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks a ton for the tip.

Ned
