Can the lights be wired using the 6 volt generator with a capacitor instead of a battery? Also I know on the alternator models, switching out the diode will convert the charge from 6 to 12 volts. What can be done with the 6 volt generator for a 12 volt charge. Will a 12 volt regulator work?

Red59,
If your generator is working well there is nothing wrong with 6Volts.Tou cannot use a capacitor . You can use the regulator and run lights direct from the D terminal but if you want to turn the lights off you must put the switch in the F terminal wire or with lights off the gen will keep charging and the juice has nowhere to go and will burn up the generator.
Switching the diode will not convert the charge from 6V to 12V in an alternator.
There are some convertions available I don't know where .I don't think they are worth the expense if you have a good 6V generator already.
Of coarse that is only my opinion ...

Good advice Lutz.
Red59, you could have your armature re-wound to 12v or we used to have a 'regulator' or some such over here which you could put in the circuit to convert to 12v. I am not sure how successfull it is/was?
There are electronic dynamo regulators on the market now which are far better than Joe Lucas.
Roy.
