triumph 3ta\5ta Nacelle

is anyone up on this model much ?
my query is as follows;
i'm curious about taking a top and two bottom sections of 3ta\5ta nacelle and fitting it to a later model 650 oif.
i KNOW this isnt a bolt-on, that some fabrication will be required.
what i'm asking mainly is: is there enough space inside the 3ta\5ta nacelle to fit over a t120 set of trees and still get a headlamp into it ?
i would have to purchase the tins sight unseen -
i'm not certain how much smaller the 3ta\5ta is from it's bigger brother the 650.
thoughts ? comments ?
thanks in advance
marc

Interesting idea

I don't think they'll fit. 2 areas to check...

• The 3T/5T forks were much narrower. Forks were widened for the DLS in 1968 and then again for the conical hub in 1971. I think you'll be about 3/4 inch too narrow.

• Earlier bikes had an assortment of HL diameters. We sort of take 7" for granted now, but back then there was no "standard". A lot of these bikes had 6" and 6-1/2" inch HLs.

Interesting idea though. Someone makes fiberglass replica nacelles now. I'd think that cutting and widening fiberglass would be much easier than working with metal. I had to braze up some places on my own stock steel nacelle and it was a royal PIA. Never want to do that again!

thanks for the reply -
the comical hub was marginally wider than the TLS - i've got both sets in the shop i can measure that difference -
the widest nacelle- would be the one used on the t110 i suspect ?
this was a nacelle fitted with a 7'' headlight - i'm near certain that they went up to that size headlight before dropping the nacelle and bathtubs altogether - i dont know however what model it was used on.
would a 5ta fuel tank be much smaller that a 650 tank ?
i hear you about working Fglass - i find it easier to work with steel mind you - but period steel tends to be prone to fractures and a little harder to start from .
do you know who manufactures the glass copies ?

Sorry, no. I see them on Ebay every once in awhile. That's all I know.

brilliant - it looks like your 650 is in a lockup ?
would it be too difficult to get the dimension of the wheel hub width ?

thanks for the photo - much appreciated.
my yokes are out for paint at present -
cheers

Marc,I measured an 8" single leading shoe hub & brake & it was 4.25" without the brake plate nut... Theres a 5.25 gap between the stauchions(which are 1.25" dia)... Hope this helps,Al
