Bolt kit for 1968 Bonneville

Hey All,

Doing some work on my 1968 Bonneville over the winter. Does anyone make a comlete kit of bolts for this bike. I have done the stainless allen conversion for the engine cases (I know it isn't historically correct, but is more convenient and all my screw heads were stripped). I would like to find a kit that includes all the bolts for everything else if possible. Sourcing one bolt at a time would be impossible, especially whitworth bolts.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

I replaced everything I could with Stainless Steel UNF. Probably 75% of the bike. Obvouisly couldnt change out the engine bolts that are Whitworth. But, I love the fact I can use my craftsman wrenches on 75% of the bike. SS Bolt UNF readily avilable.!

You need to know there can be problems with stainless steel and aluminium Kev. Read here: RR

RR - yes true enough. But all the different types have their pros and cons.
There's even more problems with SS bolts you didnt mention: they are more "brittle" (dont know tek term) so some of the thread can chaffe off. Ive had a couple seize up when removing them fast due to heat build up. Just a wipe down with oil or wd40 prevents all that though

But, when i balance everything up i went with SS for several reasons: easy to find, corrosion resistance, look good, among others. Plus, I dont expect to ride the bike in bad weather or for extended trips.
Now, one day i may change my mind and having standardized all my bolts to UNF will help ease the burden of changing them out.

Good point though - im sure others have different opinions

Kev, just wasn't sure if you knew about galvanic corrosion. Just use some purple of blue loctite and problem solved. RR

Don't use stainless steel headbolts as it has totally different stretch and therefore torque settings. Again I would never use s/steel wheel spindles unless I knew what grade was used in manufacture, due to the shear properties of the product.
