Blocked Exhaust Tappet Oil Feed Drillway

I bought some barrels for my 1974 T140 V on ebay which I rebored. However, when I tried to fit them I discovered the exhaust tappet oil feed drillway was blocked with some sort of metal possibly aluminium. I believe these barrels came off a later model. My question is can I drill out the metal and clear out the drillway.

Many thanks for your answers.

Jumbo,
Where is it blocked? in the hole where the tappet guide block goes? or at the bottom face (where it fits over the hollow dowel? or both? Can you see the filler plug on the outer edge of the base where the hole was drilled from there to the guide block hole?

Does your exhaust tappet guide block have the groove and holes, and the o-ring, for oil distribution?

OzBloke, Panic over...I drilled out the aluminium plug in the drillway and oil can now feed to the tappet block. I did have to change the tappet blocks as the exhaust tappet block was different having a grove cut into it. I am really happy as I thought I was going to have to get some new barrels.

You don't have to change the tappet guide block. The exhaust tappet block has the ring to allow oil to flow around to the other side of the tappet block so it can feed the tappet opposite the drill way. Do you have parts and shop manuals for your specific year model?

The cam follower oil feed isn't strickly needed. If you added a Morgo
big bore for instance, it would need to be plugged. As I recall, it was
deleted from production in the later years.
