Fitting new headers to exhaust adapter on head.
Having difficulties getting the header to fit square to the head over the exhaust pipe adapter. I have a 1971 TR6R with cross over header and regular muffler.
This is a new header and exhaust but the headers don't have the tab to attach to the angle brace off the engine.
I have everything loose, attach one side no problem, good fit, the other side, header slides over the exhaust pipe adapter and fits square to the head, but when I lift the rear of the pipe up to attach to the rear muffler hanger, the header will not stay square to the head. I have tried tightning the finned exhaust clamp to see if it will hold it in place but there is just to much leverage when I lift the rear pipe. Can these pipes stand a bit of bending? Any idea how to this? I think if I had tabs on the header to attach to the engine upfront, the pipe may stay where it is supposed to stay when I lift the muffler to secure to the rear hanger.
Help,
Thanks
Bob
