Spare helmet

While talking about helmets, as a thought how do you guys carry a spare helmet with no bags. On my Road King its not an issue having a spare and has come in handy when someone wants to jump on. Now with a 72 Tiger bone stock, the only thing I can think of is having a spare to the rear of the seat with bungee cords or of the such. Having said that not much room for security unless the rank and file have seen some interesting methods to the above conudrum.
Fire at will.

Try a cargo net, but put the helmet inside a soft bag first. Don't hang it by the straps, hold on your arm or carry it in a rucksack on your back, all for obvious reasons.

Personally, I don't carry a spare because I don't particularly care for passengers. But Nelson Rigg and Cortech both make really nice tail bags that have their own bungees and can go on a 6-pack rack or on the back portion of the seat. The bags let you make runs to the store without needing to bungee the stuff to the seat on the way home. It's amazing how much junk you can get into one of those bags. I have a red Cortech that started out on my VFR and has been on 2 more bikes since. Takes about 30 seconds to put it on or take it off. Also handy for putting your gloves, rainsuit, jug of water and other stuff that is nice to have with you on a day's ride. I can attest to it's ability to hold 2 dozen ears of corn. Here's a link to a site that sells them. It has two zippers to allow it to be expandable, too.

I think I paid about $60 for mine at a bike show 4 or so years ago. Comes with a rain cover if you get caught having a long ride in a downpour. I don't think I would ever be without one now.

Cudos, Snakeoil.....I use an expandable on on the back of my Virago (Florida Bike Week bike) and it's amazing how much will fit in one of those things; tools, rain gear, can of "flat-fix", windshirt etc. A helmet would be no problem and one could still carry most of the above with a bit of proper packing.

Don't worry Jim, we still love you even if you just admitted to riding a Virago!

l reccomended the cargo net cos you can roll it up and put it in your pocket. l have a tailpack too but you risk losing either the stuff in it or the whole lot around London if you walk away from the bike.

So they won't steal your extra helmet unless it's in a tailbag?

Hey guys...........I told you the Virago was a "Bike Week" motorcycle. If anything happens to it, well..........at least it's not one of my beloved Triumphs.

cargo nets are too modern. what i do is buckle the helmets' straps together, weave a bungee through it several times, strap bunge to each side of bike. it''ll just sit there ,on the seat untill you pick up a passenger.
