Thinking of going cafe w/ my 69 Triumph - Ace bars

Like the title states... I'm doing some work on my bike, at the moment and came to the idea that maybe I should cosmetically make my Trumpet into a cafe... (well mainly getting ace bars)...

I'm sure this has been done, but haven't really seen any pics of these on the 60 era bonnies...Does anyone have some pics that they could share?

Also, been searching for what the correct size bars I need if I were to take this route...what is the correct way to find out what size bars are needed to fit the bike "correctly" Any help would be appreciated

Not sure what "ace bars" are, but if you are talking about racing clip-ons, then check out Woodcraft on the web. I'm sure they have the correct clamp size for your fork tubes.

"ace bars" are basically the same as "clubman bars".

Your '69 uses 7/8" bars ... most sites selling clubmans (or 'ace' bars) will have the measurements of the bars. You should be able to figure out what will 'fit' best on your bike. It's easy on a pre-73 when you don't have to worry about a master cylinder ... it's really easy on a pre-71 not having to worry about all the bar-mounted switchgear, either ...

Be careful what Ace bars you buy as some dont fit through the handle bar holders(Goosenecks?) on the older model Triumphs that have only one bolt each(the top doest come off) .Because of there "Ace bar" shape you cannot feed the handlebar through the holders(Goosenecks)

If you have the original flatter bars just turn them upside down this is very authentic and will be close to what the newer Truxton has and what most did years ago.

If you do have the older bars and only want Ace bars sell them to me

These Bars are not "Ace bars" I dont think? well not like the Ace bars I have used. Ace bars fit on like a normal handlebars but look like clipons when fitted and put the ride position the same as clipons.

these bars are just Dropped bars and look better than Ace bars I reckon!

They are "Clubman" bars, also referred to as "Ace" bars. They indeed align very closely to a set of clip-ons at thier highest possible mounting point.

MMMM being a newbee and all and having the mechanical know how of a peanut I dont want to step on any toes but!

They are not ACE bars in my opinion!

Ace bars are a low slung asymmetrical racing bar before clip ons were available.

upside down reversed bars and drop handlebars are very similar to clubman bars but are not Ace bars.

Very silly but to fit ace bars to my previous triumph without changing the goosenecks I had to cut them in the middle and join then with a smaller tube fitted inside and braced because the sharp angles of the Ace bars would not allow them to be threaded through like a standard handle bar.

I may be wrong but Ace bars were the clipons before clipons! and reversed upside down bars were the poor mans alternative.


I personally prefer the later. call them Club man but home brand standard bars dropped or reversed look better and more authentic to the common cafe racer.

Well, these are branded and sold as "Clubman" style, and DO have the abrupt welds from the smooth curved center section to the straight handle sections. Thankfully, the yokes on my client's 500 were the half-clamp type, so no issues fitting them up.
