Hi, I'm in over my head...
Hi, I've been lurking around for a little bit and I finally registered. I just picked up a '67 rigid basket case. I'm still trying to figure out what engine I have. The internet tells me its a '67 twin, either a 350 or 500. Anybody know how I can tell? I'll be asking this in the proper forum in a minute...
Anyway, I have a feeling I'll be posting plenty of questions in the near future. Thanks everybody.

First thing, find your engine number, it should* be on a flat area on the left hand side of the engine just where the cylinders meet the crankcase.
Also there should* be a frame number on the left hand side of the steering headstock somwhere. (EDIT: - I should read closer, I assume it is not in the original frame? Like is it an engine fited to a chopper frame?) I am sure if you can get these two numbers posted up here someone can tell you exactly what you have.
And welcome too!
*well it is on my Bonnie, not sure about other models.

Well, I think its a T100, which would make it 500cc's right? The motor number is H56263, and it has t1000 ot t100c stamped above it. And the frame is t100ch47040, or something like that, there are some other random marks near the number that make it hard to read.
Its seems obvious that it says T100 to me now. I guess the frame is a 1966 and the motor is a '67

Ok, from what little I know, plus a lot of googling, this is my conclusion.
Most of the info comes from here.
Your engine number falls in the build year for 67, H49833-H57083 so it looks like your poke at it being '67 500cc unit twin is right.
This page also tells me that the "C" in your engine number denotes a high compression engine.
This page might also help.
I will have to defer to someone with more knowlede than me for the frame, havent a clue there sorry.

Mathblaster, we just might have something in common here other than rebuilding a Triumph. I just got the first shots of my basket case(s) purchase from my wife the other day. It seems I have a red chopped frame extremely similar to yours at first glance. You've got a headstart on me, but I'm guessing we might run into similar issues with the frames once we get going.
I've got a thread on the rebuild/restoration forum going.

Mathblaster,
Welcome to the forum,
From the looks at your above statement, you have the correct
idea. Yes a 66 frame and a 67 engine and yes it was a 500
when it started life.

Anyone else getting a overly wide screen for this thread? If so, can anyone explain why this thread is so wide?

It's the size of the photo that is causing it.
