Steering stabilizer '72 TR-6

Any recommendation?

Want to stay with the stock style triumph unit.

What's your experience?

TIA,

TD

I sure hope you dont mean he stabilizers they fit to Harleys

they really do fit extra wheels on the back to stop them falling over or leaning

No not training wheels STEERING DAMPENER.

A device to add rigidity and stability to the front end of a bike at speed and/or deflecting off of rocks, roots etc. at speed in the off road world.

I don't believe your '72 TR6 was fitted with a steering damper as standard. Even if it was they had no real function, especially for road bikes. Most people never used them hence they were deleted from the road models in the late '60s.

In all due respect YES they were on the TR6-C model and YES they are functionable and at 70-80 mph on the road I feel it would help.

Anyone got any experience with them?

Having had and ridden Triumphs both with and without them, including a 1968 T100S, a 1971 TR6R and my current 1970 bonnie, I stand by my opinion that for road use they serve no purpose. Besides, it sounds like your mind is already made up on the issue.

If you ride yours consistently at 80 mph you'll need parts for an engine rebuild rather than a steering damper.

Ok thats fine I respect your personal experience as well as your opinion. Thank you for your contribution.

I don't really ride consistently at 80 mph but I do see it. My bike loves 65-70 mph on the open road. I ride this bike as it was intended. If it breaks, and it hasn't, I'll fix it.

As far as dampeners serving no purpose ask the Road Racers both vintage and modern why they run them. Flat trackers too.

I ride my bike anywhere from just putting to a bit more aggressively when conditions are favorable.

If you're just putting around, which is great, you probably see no purpose in a dampner.

It's all good,

TD
