Tr6 tank mountings

Hi All,I always thought there was something wrong with the way the gas tank sits on my Tiger,I just found out there should be two of those U shaped wotsits between the tank and the frame,I've only got one,at the rear of the top tube, and some rubbery mat type stuff fixed to the front with electrical tape,if any of you have got your tank off just now, could you please have a quick measure up on the thickness of the the bit that sits on top of the tube,I am told they differ front and back on this model (72 Tr6r breadbin tank)I have some rubber blocks I want to make replacements with ,thank's,
regards,
Bill.

Bill,
Check out part number 83-4932* on website:

Might be easier to buy the right part than botch it up?

Cheers
JQ

I have an export model TR6R 1971 (April) and have the tank off at the moment, I bought new replacement rubber. From what was on there before, the rubber mount on the back, nearest the seat, is rounded and is 3/4" thick and the rubber mount on the front nearest the handle bars is 3/8" thick. They are different profiles. The front rubber is the same as the rear except it is flat on top. The PO had what I suspect, cut the flat bit down to about 1/4". The new one is like I said, 3/8". The tank the bike came with did not have the center chrome strip and had pin holes so I bought a new one off a T120 with chrome strip and found it to be a hair narrower, so I will have to shave the rubber to get a good fit. I AM NOT POSITIVE the more rounded rubber goes on the back and the flat topped rubber goes on the front, this is just what the PO had. I am experiementing to get the best fit without stressing the tank.

Hope this helps. Electrical tape helps keep the rubber in place when you put the tank on as they seem to move around a lot. I don't know the exact location these rubber mount fit on the tube but am putting my back on where the rub marks are from the PO.
