I have a problem with the clutch sticking when the bike sits for a few minutes. I noticed that with it running on the center stand in neutral when I pull in the clutch I hear a different sound. It's sort of a rumble. I checked the oil and it was over full. I put in some new and waited for it to stop dripping. ( I think that is the correct level) Should I be hearing anything from the clutch?

hi p,
you might have a worn out clutch drum,or the rollers supporting it .the clutch will sound a little different when pulled in due to it being loose and wobbling about.
take the plates out and see if there are notches in the groove the plate locate in.there should not be any notches,if there is,its worn out.
many people say that you should not use 20/50 in the clutch.i have used it for 26 years with no clutch drag or any other problems.mine never sticks.20/50 is what triumph specified so cant be far wrong.

Hello Production,

What do you mean by: I put new oil in and waited for it to stop dripping? On my 1980 T140E the Primary Case takes 150cc of engine oil (20/50). This is a very small amount (about half a cup) and should not be dripping from anywhere.

Sounds like you have filled the case to where it would spill out of the clutch rod adjustment hole.

Just a thought

Thanks I am also using 20/50 and since the oil change the sticking seems better. I'm pumping the clutch several times before I kick it and that seems to break it loose. Thanks for the info on the clutch noise. That sounds like a job for a mechanic. I'm not sure I'm ready to take the clutch out.

I wasn't clear in my post. I was referring to filling the gear case oil where it drips out the center hole of the drain plug. I did put about 1/4 of a pint of engine oil back in the primary
thanks :brk:
