T120V/T140V front wheel bearings

Haynes says all threads on the disc-brake version are normal right-handed.
The nut is very tight.
Took the wheel to a garage, "have to split the nut", he said.
My workshop manual only caters for the drum-brake version.
The wheel spins fine on the axle, but spinning the axle feels lumpy and dry.
I`m going to buy two bearings and a nut.
Can anyone confirm it`s right-handed?

Hi Caulky,

I have no idea, but either ask the shop when you order your parts or if you're buying on the internet wait till the new nut arrives.

Why did I know that there would be problems
Mine is not like the 1972 T120 or the `73 or `74 T140.
But the bearings all have similar numbers, I think.
Also I didn`t realise that its not a normal nut, doubt if splitting is an option
Thanks Webby, I`ll ask the spares bloke about the nut.

Hi Caulky,

I normally order my parts from Supreme by telephone. Any time I've needed advise or info they have always been more than helpful. For example last week I ordered a gearbox plunger and housing, when I asked for sizes etc. he measured it up for diameter and thread pitch so I could start modifying by cases. Most places I've dealt with have always been more than happy to help.

Good Luck with your wheel

According to my service manual that covers from 73 to 78, the threaded recessed nut on the left (disc brake) side is a right hand thread. There is only a circlip on the right side.

Thanks for your input guys!
Jimmy, my bonnie (T120V) is very strange, and not because of this. Most things are not as you would think.
I was dreading ordering the spare bearings.
I only know of two of these left in the world plus mine.
One in Canada and the other in Northern England.
The nut is on the right and the circlip is on the left (disc side).
Someone has had trouble before... the nut has been chiseled or centre-punched on.
As long as the new bearings fit, It is of no concern.
Maybe the spindle is in backwards, who knows? No spares book for this model!
Getting the nut off will be fun... not, especially if it is a left-handed thread.

Hi Caulky,

Just a thought, your nut must be R/H thread if it's on the R/H side, that way if it moves with the wheel in a FWD direction it would be tightening up. Unless, like you say the axle's been installed the wrong way round.

Sounds like some installed the disc on the wrong side of the hub. It will fit on either side.

So if the nut should be on the left side, it follows that it is a left-hand thread?
Perhaps it was reassembled wrong when I had the wheel rebuilt.
Putting the disc on the other side wont be a problem.
