How many parts make up a Bonneville?
Inquiring minds want to know how many parts make up a '68 T120R Bonneville; well, I found out.
There may be no way to definitively determine the EXACT count due to the fact that some options were available, and some items, technically, are not "parts" (like keys and tools).
Also, I didn't count each individual wire, terminal and rubber insulated connector in the wiring harness; the entire harness with all connectors is counted as one part. (One of these days I'll count those wires). And, the speedo, tach, some cables, bearings, shock dampers, and key switches are each composed of many parts; these were all counted as one part each.
So,
1,841 actual parts that comprise the bike
4 keys (from new, 2 ignition, 2 fork lock)
16 tools in the complete kit as illustrated in the parts book
11 decals (there may be disagreement on this as to several decals)
10 wire & cable tie strips (I used that many, the book doesn't specify)
Grand total - 1,882 "parts" delivered from the dealer to the original buyer in '68.
This does NOT include a seat strap and grab rail, they were optional or "available".
Also, I counted the two tires, not listed in the parts diagrams; and, I counted the individual parts in some assemblies where some of the little parts are sold as "sets", like points (the individual parts are clearly illustrated).
Too much time on my hands? Nah…

Thanks GPZ,
That's exactly the sort of thing I worry about that keeps me awake at night, maybe I need to get out more often
I feel that I have bought about 1,800 of those parts!

OOPS!
I forgot (2) inner tubes, (2) rim strips, (2) valve cores and (2) valve caps.
That's 8 more parts, or 1,890 total.
Yes, I counted the rotor, cam, (2) springs and (2) bobweights on the ignition points advancer, and (2) springs, (4) collets, (4) bushings, and (2) dampers for the rear shocks.

Paul,
You forgot one standard item. So add one more part, the most
common accessory. The Oil Leak option!! Or as we call it over
here, The Automatic Rust Prevention System.

You beat me too that GPZ.
Of course some poor soul is going to have to count them as well just to make sure you are correct <s>. And then will we have the Bonneville with the most/least parts?
Probably not.
Derry.
one...two...three...four... ...

GPZ--
Funny you should make that count. I was curious about the same thing on my 71 T100R and added up all the parts, using the parts catalog. I came up with 1989.
By the way, for those interested in a little more academic view of parts and parts counts, some might find this entertaining:
