newbie question on engine model year compatibility

newbie question on engine model year compatibility
Can anyone tell me if a 1979-1982 vintage t140 head will work on a 73 T140 lower end? They both are 10 bolt units but need to be sure.

Thanks

They will bolt up to the cylinders and run fine but the carburetor manifolds are different (and I think the air boxes are too) on the 79-82. The Manifolds on the 79-82 heads point straight back instead of being splayed outward and the carbs are held on by rubber hoses instead of being bolted solid to the manifolds. There is no provision to attach the earlier carbs to the 79-82 manifolds. If you're building something this might not be a problem but if you are installing it on a stock bike and planning to reuse your existing equipment (carbs/airboxes?), it will.
