Got my Bonnie started, thanks to all!!!!!!!

Bought a 1970 Bonnie two months ago. Looked good but did not run. The PO said, "It will run", and today it did!

There is no way it would have run without help from you fine folks on the forum.

I thank you all so very much. Look forward to many questions !

Best regards,

Henry

Two! Couldn't believe it!

I squirted the oil here and there as recommended and even put some in the cylinders according to my neighbor. My wife was standing square behind the bike when it started at 3,000 rpm and a great puff of smoke. Scared the heck out of her and me to tell you the truth. Once the oil burned off, no more smoke. That's either a good thing or a sign no oil is being circulated. Lots of doubts at this point but glad it started.

Carbs are slow to tickle. May have dropped the floats too low. Lots of work ahead.

It was a good day. Had a beer over it!

Congratulations! I always feel a sense of accomplishment when I hear one I've put together run for the first time. Hope you feel it too. Not every one can do it.

Tell your wife she's "good luck" and the bike won't start unless she stands behind it every time.

...then ask her if you can buy ANOTHER old bike!

Well done!

P.S. next time you start it, be sure to immediately pop open the oil tank and watch for a bubbly squirt of oil return to the tank, you can see it right inside the filler neck.

If no return flow, SHUT IT OFF and investigate immediately.

GPZ, she's good luck all right. She encouraged me to buy it and found it on eBay. Go figure. Not many like that.

Hey Jimmy, didn't exactly put it together, just cleaned it up a bit. But, yeah, very satisfying to have it run.

Henry, we caught a pair of good ones.

So, are you getting good oil return? i'm guessing "yes".

Two kicks there ain't much wrong with it then soopadoopa!
as GrandPaulZ said check for oil squirting back into tank you should get a pulsey squrt an 1" or so long.

For the slow tickle you want to work on the tickle buttons and extend them a bit,
by the book you are supposed to pull out the roll pins, and when you replace them do not knock them in as far.
For the life of me I could not get mine out
so I found a small flat headed nail that would knock up inside the rollpin
cut it to length and wapped it in, job done nice fast tickle.

Well well well,

That is good news for the day. I am glad you got your machine
running. It shall take a bit to get to sorted, but the hard part
is past you now.
