Sorry to dissagree guys and I do think what you have suggested is VERY worth while..... but in conjunction with dynamically balancing the crank why not have a clutch that ACTUALLY WORKS? The cost of stock replacement parts is about the same as a new belt system!
If you buy a QPD system or another with a diaphragm spring which completely replaces the stock items, including the shock absorber, you will get a clutch with the following benefits; Runs dry, does not slip or drag, frees off instantly, gets lighter at the lever when operated, saves weight, reduces secondary out of balance vibration and has a larger sealed bearing centrally positioned below the belt. Use this in conjunction with an 8mm Gates belt and you can forget the primary. IF and it's a big IF, the belt does break, it will not wreck the cases, unlike a duplex chain can.
DO NOT waste your money on a Hayward system. They are cheap admitedly but use the BAD items from the stock clutch (rollers and shock absorber) and the 10mm synchroflex belt he uses was NOT designed to run in oil. I cannot comment on the quality of materials or workmanship because I don't know. However the other statements are FACT.
Oh, and then if you want in the future, you can put an electric start on the back of the clutch basket........... but let's not go there just yet.
Ken, can I suggest you do a search because there have been quite a few threads on this forum regarding the same questions as you have posted.
