Gap between cylinder head and cylinder barrel.

The gap between the cylinder head and cylinder barrel is way to big. The push rod tubes are holding the cylinder head to high. I put oil spacers on the top and bottom, and believe I put them in right. If anyone has any relevant advice, or has had a similar problem please let me know. Thanks

Chad

How much is way too big? I had a pretty good gap in mine and I just cranked it down... now it doesn't leak!

How, way too big is it? As I recall, with the copper gasket in place
a 1/16" drill bit should just fit between the head and the barrel.
Was your head milled?

I made another beginners error. I didn't see an old oil seal that got stuck to the cylinder head. My only question now is which tube goes on which side. The tubes look identical, but one is slightly longer. I switched the tubes around to make sure of it. ( the shorter of the two tubes has about 1/16in. of play when when both tubes are put on and the cylinder head is resting on top) Is this normal? I know there is an inlet tube and exhaust tube. Also if this is normal does the slightly longer tube go in the front of the motor or the back? Thank you all.

I don't know what you have going on but your push rod tube covers including the E model should be identical and have the same part number

I'm not seeing part numbers on the covers at all. They look identical in every way, but one seems to be a hair taller. Just to verify. The push rod covers are supposed to be identical, and there for interchangeable?

OK just put the tubes together and the flanges should be identical, don't worry about the inside height, just the flanges, and they should not dip anywhere, but be perfectly flat all the way round. If not junk them for a new pair.
