engine alignment

Hi again, installing the rebuilt engine back into my 72 tiger 650 tr6r i have come across a couple of problems, first, trying to get the lower engine bolt and spacers in was really difficult, i even scraped of the new paint on the frame to get them in, then i noticed the front ones had a pretty good gap that closed up as i tightened the bolt, i then installed the rear brackets and tightened everything up but when i tried to install the upper engine brace the hole to the frame does not line up, its out about half a hole, is there a proper sequence for the install, i checked all my pre teardown pics and everything is in the same order, any ideas? thanks again

When you install the engine, leave all the bolts and brackets loose until everything is in place. Only then do you tighten up the bolts.

I don't know about the 72 but later OIF frames had different thickness spacers between the engine and frame from one side to the other. If they are swapped it would put your alignment off.

The 72 also has different thickness on both the forward mount and the lower mount. I can't remember what goes where as my engine is on the bench but the easy way to check is to set the engine in the frame, install the lower bolt (without spacers) and then temporally install the rear mounting plates, you will need to slide the engine over a little bit to fit the plates and then all will become clear (it worked for me). I think the thicker spacers go on the right but cannot be 100% sure.
