what year is my bonne?

on the registration it says 1960. On the engine block the last two numbers are 62. It was my dad's bike. He swears it's a 62. I'm not sure.

Hi Davetile,

If your bike is a 1960 it will have the numbers between 029364 - 030424 (Early 1960) or late D101 - D7726.
If its a 62 it will be between D15789 - D20308.

I hope this helps

The serial number should start with T120 or T120R if it truly is a Bonneville. Then, the serial number needs to fall within a certain range (I assume Webby researched one of several sources to quote that range, I don't have my books handy).

Nowhere in any Triumph engine or frame serial numbers do the actual YEAR of manufacture appear as a 2 or 4 digit part of the number, except by pure coincidence of sequence.

You're right GPZ, the details came from "Triumph Bonneville" by Steve Wilson.

Triumphs built after 1968 used a two letter system to designate month and year of manufacture.

Prior to that, serial number and production records are the only way to definitively determine date of manufacture.

For those who may be interested, the 1969-on codes are as follows:

Month
A = Jan
B = Feb.
C = Mar.
D = Apr
E = May
G = Jun
H = Jul
J = Aug
K = Sep
N = Oct
P = Nov
X = Dec

Year
C = 69
D = 70
E = 71
G = 72
H = 73
J = 74
K = 75
N = 76
P = 77
X = 78

For example, the two letters in the serial of my 1970 TR6R are AD, (January 1970).

What are the numbers? With what does the numbers or letters start? How many carbs has it got? Is is a pre unit?
Put up a photo.

While you about it please up-date your profile, where you from etc, Please.

Webby has it right.

I just checked the Development History of the Triumph Bonneville by J.R. Nelson.

The numbers on the chart on page 158 are as Webby stated above.

Cheers,

Dave
