Carb Help needed in Northern Ireland
Hi,
Does anybody know where i can get help in Northern Ireland to set up my Amal Monoblocs on my T120TT-it is running very erratically at the minute-mixture too rich?
Header pipes going blue instantly-plugs are a deep black colour-it won't idle.
I have put new filters on but no joy-do I need to get the carbs rejetted and set up on a dyno?
Sorry for being so long winded but any help would be appreciated.
Paul

Endeavour,
I cannot help with a Northern Ireland reference, but I would like to comment on your post.
Blueing pipes and dark coloured plugs could be symptoms of a retarded spark. A rich mixture alone would not account for the bluing exhausts, which are getting very hot near the exhaust port. Typically some advancement of the spark would cool the exhaust port and heat up the plugs a bit. This is what is needed I think
You do not comment on the year of manufacture, the plug type, the ignition type and/or when you last timed the engine. If you supply this info, more help will come your way. RR

First thing I would check are the floats and float needles. Fuel leaking past the float valves is usually the cause of running rich.
Try www.amalcarb.co.uk/ and www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/list_amal.php

Hi paul,
Whereabouts are you in N Ireland? I'm in Ballymena. I have a very good friend who's a whizz wrench in Armagh. Perhaps we could assist? Richard

Thanks for all the generous replies and offers of help there are pictures of my bike in the cafe racer forum it's a 1967 T120TT it was repatriated from the USA in 1997 restored approximately 6-8 years ago I bought it 2 months ago from a new Triumph dealership somebody traded it for a new scrambler-there have been various mods carried out-early 67 paint job aubergine and gold it was originally aubergine and white/speedo fitted/oil pressure gauge fitted/lots of engine breathers/electronic ignition-the bike runs on the Energy Transfer system no battery fitted and can be a pig to start.Plugs are NGKB8ES/ignition unit is Boyer Bransden Micro MKIII/Power Box is Boyer Bransden.
As for checking the timing I haven't got a clue.
Once Again many Thanks Paul

Champion N5 plugs are generally considered to to perform better than NGK in T120's. I am not too familiar with Boyer Electronic Ignition but I understand they are quite voltage sensitive so you may be better off with a battery, at least until you have the bike running properly. Try http://www.britishonly.com/tech/tips/boyerbransden.asp for more info.
