Speedometer and tachometer

I need a new speedometer and tachometer for my '68 Bonneville (DU83038), but I'm uncertain what clocks I can use. Speedometer-wise I guess they're all 1:1, right? According to this link, the 1968 tach is unique: http://www.raskcycle.com/techtip/p27...1968%20Triumph
Is the difference in the ratio or just apperance or otherwise? Could I use this set: speedometer and tach. Thanks

I don't think they are 1:1.

You need to look at the parts book to confirm, then PULL OFF THE DRIVE BOX and confirm it's the matching original unit. it's too easy to have a mismatched gearbox installed by some previous owner.

Don't forget some of the modern pattern replacment units seem to be a very good deal (I've only installed my first one and don't have a user report yet)

IF you have the originals,I would have them rebuilt rather than get new.

I have the originals but the quote I got for fixing them was about 9 times higher than buying new replica clocks So I thought I would keep them in a drawer for now, and buy some new ones.
I've found out that the difference between tachometer clocks in the late sixties are apperance (colour of the needle) and the drive is 4:1 and 2:1 on the speedometer.

I don't know who you got the rebuild quote from, but there at least two reputable firms that charge less than $200 including shipping both ways.

I would interested in finding out how the replica speedo and tacho turns out. I have the original instruments on my 82 T140E but the speedo is next to useless with the needle waving around when doing a constant speed - not fun when passing a speed camera ... . Does anyone make replicas with KM/H markings?

shep.

Km/H

i have km/h on my speedo (not sure what brand) but it is mph, when it shows 60km/h i am really doing 60mph. i have to do the conversion in my head for ALL speeds, a bit of a pain in the ass. the drive isn't that old but not know about the speedo

$200 each or $200 for the pair?

I got quotes from two companies, both were more than twice the cost of replicas.
So, what did I do?
