Not an ideal starting point as they were not particularly well regarded 35yrs ago. Although this was a little unfair as when properly maintained they are quite a pleasant bike but no ball of fire. I am currently restoring the off road version. Parts are also difficult to obtain. Best left to the real enthusiast who does not mind devoting time to it.
Much better getting a more modern bike as a starting point as it will be much cheaper in the long run.
If you fancy getting into the classic scene later on, then at least you will have some knowledge to base your choice on.
