Center Stand

Hello out there. I've been trying to find a used center stand for my 1971 Tiger for some time now. Does any one out there have one they would like to sell or knows where I can get one? Also, what would you say is normal oil consumpton for this bike? 12,000 miles on the clock. I think right now it's using about a quart in 300 miles. There might be a winter rebuild in my future.
P.S. I'm using 20/50 motor oil.

Hi bum you consumption seems about the same as mine.
I give up trying to measure consumption years ago, I just top it up now
As for the main stand I took mine off, as I kept scraping! it on the deck

I very recently got one from eBay for my 73 Tiger after much looking around.

I paid US$45 + shipping which was somewhat more than I expected but still much less than a NOS one from here in Australia or New Zealand.

Oh ho! Plewsy,

You got that right on both accounts. I just give two squeezes of
oil every 100 miles. And ditched the centerstand. That thing will
bite tarmak quick in the left handers. No fun there.

I was told yesterday that I had the wrong centre stand and that was what was making it require all my brute strength to get it on and off.
Are there a few sizes from different years?
The parts place I looked at has "MAINSTAND,T120/T140/A65,71-79 "
IS the pre OIF stand longer or am I being led up the garden path?

cheers
derek

Delrazor,

The '71 is a taller bike and, like mine, takes a bit of muscle to get it up on the centre stand. Designed for young fellas of 20 who can pull them up easily enough. RR

Hi delrazor,
I'm not sure if stands are different sizes,
but wouldn't put it past them
can you get access to welding gear?
I take it the bolts and holes are in good condition.
It sounds like the stand is a bit too long, and may need shortening.
How high is the bike when on the stand?
Get the rear wheel approx 2" of the deck, with bike stood straight
and measure how long the stand should be.
Then if you dare! cut the feet off your stand, remove the desired amount then weld the feet back on.
Do not use electric welding with stand attached to bike.

Speaking of center stands I sure would like a lead on finding one for my (new to me) '64 Trophy. So far that's been the hardest part for me to source.

edit: Oh, nevermind. It's the American English that used in the searches. Once I used the proper English mainstand enough results popped up that I'll be fine...

I really do need a 1964 parts book to help me translate :-)
